UK SMEs more forward-thinking and environmentally aware than their overseas counterparts

The UK's small and medium-sized enterprises, or SMEs, are more open to emerging technologies and the benefits of green IT than their global competitors, according to new research by industry association CompTIA.

The report found that 65 per cent of UK SME's are "constantly" evaluating new technologies, compared to 51 per cent in the US and 29 per cent in Canada. In fact, more than half of UK respondents said that they are convinced that new technology is vital in staying ahead of the competition.

The research also found that green IT was voted a top priority by 37 per cent of the UK companies surveyed.

"The challenge is identifying which emerging technologies are going to be successful," said CompTIA European vice president Matthew Poyiadgi. "Choosing which horse to back is considerably easier if you have a talented pool of staff providing you with good, up-to-date information."
